Years 5+6, 30 children. Charlotte and Heidi’s visit this time includes…. A science experiment!!! Students were shown how to set up their own experiment which involved putting eggs in solution to simulate the effect of acid on tooth enamel. They got to put one egg in a cup with lemonade and one in water, the children could see the mineral coming out of the egg in the lemonade and the egg also went soft! All the children had a great time and learnt a lot today, a good visit.
East Meon School. 22 children. Charlotte and Heidi have a lovely day teaching the children all about oral hygiene and the children were able to use disclosing tablets to show up all the plaque on their teeth. Then, they were given new toothbrushes and taught the best way to clean their teeth.
Our first ever late evening session is tonight! Clinicians starting late and working through until 8pm. Needless to say, staff are looking forward to the lie-in and avoiding the rush hour traffic, YAY! Good for our commuter patients – keep an eye out for our late evenings as we’ll be doing a couple every month
Family meeting through lunch to discuss the latest issues and action feedback from patients; keep the feedback coming! If we don’t know about it, we can’t change it!
Herne Junior School. 80 children. Charlotte and Heidi had the large task of 3 groups of year 3 pupils! There were 27, 23 and 28 in the groups. Charlotte and Heidi are starting to get good at these school visits! Our Clinicians are well into the flow of things and now have lots of items for demonstration on their visits. The children were given foods and shown the equivalent sugar levels with bags full of sugar. In today’s question/ answer session, the children were active in asking lots of intelligent questions and they learnt about shark’s teeth as well!
DBG training day, CPR, Cross Infection and Fire training. All the team got to test their skills in an emergency style situation and had great fun putting each other into the recovery position. We all received our yearly, up to date information on CPR and Cross Infection Control. Then we were taken into the back garden where our tutor proceeded to set a fire! We all had a go with the fire extinguishers and learnt how to use them properly. All round fun and exhausting day, not to mention educational!
Charlotte and Heidi had another school visit of 15 3-4 year olds where they got to use the oversized toothbrush and large set of teeth for demonstration. The children really learned something from the visit and it’s quickly becoming a popular and enjoyable game for the children to sort food into good and bad hoops!
As Charlotte and Heidi were teaching two groups of 3-4 year olds (a class of 16 and one of 17), they gave a tooth brushing demonstration with an oversized toothbrush and large set of teeth. The children really got into it and enjoyed the exercise where they got to sort food into good for you and bad for you hoops! The school visits really help to make learning fun and the children really get stuck in to the activities :-)
